What is the difference in the Kindle with the 3G Wireless vs the built in WiFi one?
Can someone explain it without linking me to an amazon discussion. I get confused a bit.
This is the new one and in comparing it to the old Kindle it’s missing the Free 3G Wireless Internet. Does that mean this new Kindle won’t let you go online?
I’m so confused on WiFi. That’s basically the internet right? Why don’t people call it the internet anymore? What is the difference in WiFi and the internet? Will I not be able to go online if a place has no "WiFi"?

What’s the difference – Kindle WiFi or Kindle 3G + WiFi. What is the difference?
I just want to be able to go anywhere in my city and have my books, newspaper, and surf the net and check my emails. WiFi, internet, 3G whatever. Which one will let me do that with no hassles? I don’t care about one being a few ounces smaller. It’s SMALL enough. A few ounces doesn’t make any difference.

Make it simple, you should go for Kindle 3G + WiFi for your need. It is rather technical if you want to understand the difference of 3G or WiFi, but I’ll try.
To get on the internet, you still need a connection method. When we’re at home, we normally use a broadband cable to connect to the internet, to get our computer online. So, when we’re using the wireless device like Kindle, it needs some method to get itself online, so 3G or WiFi are methods to get online.
WiFi can be used when the Kindle is around a WiFi hotspot. Like when you’re at home or in a cafe, if there is WiFi hotspot (should be a device that has itself connected to the internet using cable or some other way, to support any WiFi enabled device around it to get to the internet). The distance that WiFi signal can transmit is limited, so normally you can only use WiFi at indoor places.
3G can be used when the Kindle is in 3G wireless coverage. 3G is just the signal we use on our mobile phone, so the coverage is wide. You can access 3G signal is most of the place in city.
So with 3G + WiFi model, you can use either 3G or WiFi to access the internet on the Kindle. This should be what you want.
Finally as you know, Amazon just announced new models of the Kindle reader (mine is Kindle 2, and now it upgrades to the Kindle 3 and sold at the same price). I’ve mentioned quite a lot about the new Kindle and where to get free books, in another answer here:

The Kindle 3 comes with WiFi, since it doenst support 3G you will need a WiFi hotspots to access the internet and for downlaoding books.Also you can buy it from computer and tranfer them to the kindle via USB cable.And the other verison supports both WiFi and 3G.
Also another change is Kindle DX has 3G but no WiFi but that doenst make much difference since you will be able to access internet via 3G.

The only difference is one has 3G and one doesn’t.
